                             From the Director

Students can work through the program at their own pace and enjoy seeing how they progress as they check their records. The records maintained can be accessed by the teacher and the students.

The program can be modified to fit the needs of the individual students. If a student is struggling with fractions, fractions alone can be assigned. If a student wants a thorough review of algebra, the complete algebra module can be assigned. There is a large quantity of material available in most developmental areas and students cannot say they have completed all the work that PLATO has to offer.

Students are able to immediately reinforce what they had been working on. Since the program is correlated to the new GED test standards, the students know they were working on skills that they needed for GED success.

We have also started to work with EDP students, and have started to assign skills needed for the EDP to the students. The program can be very individualized, and is ideal for this use.

  • The students loved the program, and that is what we liked most about it. Students were motivated by the program, arriving early to use it.
  • The fact that we could observe the progress of the students was helpful.
  • We never ran out of material. We had used another electronic remedial program in the past which the better students usually exhausted. That never happened with PLATO. There was always a fresh way of studying the areas the students were working on.
