Scholarships

JOHN A. ALBANI SCHOLARSHIP

Northwest Community Bank established a scholarship in 2001 in memory of John A. Albani, their bank's former Auditor and Security Officer. The scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming or NCCC continuing student enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program.

RAYMOND W. ATCHESON SCHOLARSHIPS

Raymond W. Atcheson Scholarship #1 is awarded to a graduate with a high cumulative grade point average who is transferring to a four-year college.  Preference is given to a mathematics or science major and veteran of the armed forces.  This scholarship was established in honor of a retired NCCC executive dean and Captain, US Navy – Korea and Vietnam.

Raymond W. Atcheson Scholarship #2 is awarded to a continuing student at NCCC who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, preferably a mathematics or science major, a veteran of the armed forces or who is a single parent.   This scholarship was established in honor of a retired NCCC executive dean and Captain, US Navy – Korea and Vietnam.

George J. Atcheson Scholarship is awarded to a graduate with a high cumulative grade point average who is transferring to a four-year college.  Preference is given to a mathematics or science major and veteran of the armed forces.  This scholarship was established by Raymond W. Atcheson to honor his father T/SGT George J. Atcheson US Army -  WWII.

CARMINE E. CORNELIO SCHOLARSHIP

The Carmine E. Cornelio Scholarship, established in 2000, is awarded annually to a graduating student, transferring to another senior level college or university, who has demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need.

REGINA M. DUFFY SCHOLARSHIP

The Regina M. Duffy scholarship was established in 1988 by Northwestern College Foundation to honor retired NCCC President Regina M. Duffy. It is awarded annually to a graduating student who has earned the majority of their academic credits at Northwestern, has demonstrated superior academic achievement, and is transferring to a four-year college.

THE MARION WILLIAM EDWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

Mrs. Alice Edwards of Torrington, in memory of her husband, Marion William Edwards, provided a fund to establish this scholarship in 2001. On an annual basis, two scholarships are awarded. One scholarship is awarded to a continuing student at NCCC majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences. A second scholarship is awarded to a student who is graduating and transferring to another college or university and will be continuing his/her studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Preference is given to students majoring in Literature or Journalism.

NORTHWESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Northwestern Community College Foundation Scholarship, established in 2000, is a semi-annual award given each semester to a matriculated student at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Preference is given to students who have demonstrated academic merit and accomplishments.

PHOENIX SCHOLARS PROGRAM

In 2001, the Phoenix Companies created this scholarship to be awarded annually to a new, full-time student at NCCC, who intends to pursue an academic major in the College’s Business and Management Administration program. Preference is given based on financial need and prior academic achievement.

MARY ELLEN SERAFINI SCHOLARSHIP

The Mary Ellen Serafini Scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of the dedicated individual who served as Executive Assistant to three Northwestern presidents. It is awarded to a graduating student who is enrolled in a four-year program leading to a degree, and, preferably, is a working parent.

GEORGE L. SHERWOOD SCHOLARSHIP

The George L. Sherwood Scholarship was established in memory George L. Sherwood Sr., who was one of the founders of Northwestern Connecticut Community College. The scholarship is awarded to a continuing or graduating NCCC student, who is a history major, has achieved a grade point average 3.5 or better, and who is a resident of Northwest Connecticut.

SARINO AND MARGUERITE DIMAURO SCHOLARSHIP

The Sarino and Marguerite DiMauro Scholarship is awarded annually to a continuing, matriculated student who will be enrolled for a minimum of six credits at NCCC, has completed his/her first year of classes, has earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50, and has demonstrated financial need.  This scholarship will be awarded to an eligible student in the following order of preference:

  1. to a deaf or hard of hearing student 
  2. to a student enrolled in the Interpreter Preparation Program: ASL/English
  3. to a student enrolled in one of the following NCCC academic programs relating to the medical and public health care fields (i.e., Allied Health Administration, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapist Assistant, Human Services, Liberal Arts and Sciences: Psychology pathway) .

NCCF NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

The NCCF Nursing Scholarship is awarded annually to the NCCC graduating student with the highest cumulative grade point average who has been accepted into the Nursing program at Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC).
