These seminars are offered free of charge, however, preregistration is required. Registration can be made by phone: 860-738-6446 or by email: mschindewolf@nwcc.commnet.edu

MOTORCYCLE SAFETY INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION FORMS

The Connecticut Rider Education Program is authorized by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Office of Highway Safety. The curriculum, developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, addresses issues raised from studying motorcycle crashes and identifying skills absent in riders. Safety is the key factor.

NCCC offers three levels of instruction:

  • BRC, Basic, for those with little or no riding experience. This course covers fundamental riding skills of shifting, braking, and cornering and expands them into more advance street riding techniques. It can also be a good review for those returning to Motorcyle riding. Motorcycles/Scooters and helmet are provided for training.
  • IRC, Intermediate, for those with some riding experience, a learner's permit (or motorcycle license), and street legal motorcycle/scooter to use in the course.
  • ERC, Experienced, for riders with a valid motorcycle license, at least 6 months and 500 miles of riding experience. This 6 hour course is designed to improve riding skills in braking, evasive maneuvers and turning.
  • ARC, Advanced, a new 8 hour course for licensed experienced riders designed to improve safety awareness and overall skill development.

Participants succesfully completing the Basic or the Intermediate Course are entitled to a waiver for the on-cycle licensing skills test at the DMV and graduates of all levels receive a certificate and are eligible for a 10% discount on motorcycle insurance.

Classes are scheduled from April through October each year in the Northwest corner on the Torrington UConn campus and in East Granby at the Air National Guard Base on Bradley International Airport.
