NURSING, ALLIED HEALTH, AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Nurse Aide Training (CNA)
with optional English as a Second Language (ESL) component.
This program will prepare individuals with the entry skills needed to become a Certified Nurse Aide. We offer classroom lecture, hands-on laboratory skills practice and clinical rotation at an area nursing facility. Topics include personal care skills, care of the cognitively impaired, restorative services and resident rights. The ESL component, which primarily precedes the core CNA training, is designed to help ESL students understand and communicate English more effectively. All course materials, uniforms and the fee for State Examination are included in the cost of the program.
Nurse aide training program 118 hours, 6 weeks
Nurse aide training with ESL 168 hours, 8 weeks
This is a WIA approved program, Financial assistance may be available through the Department of Labor for those who qualify.
Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B)
An EMT course is offered each semester to prepare students to take the state certification examination. These classes meet 2 evening per week for 14 weeks and include lecture and skills practicum. Students must be at least 16 years of age. Students under 18 must have parental permission.
Paramedic Training (EMT-P)
This challenging course is for the serious and motivated EMS professional who is looking to enhance his/her knowledge and skill while building a career in the EMS field.
Our program requires a commitment of 16-20 hours per week for approximately 15 months. Prospective students must hold EMT-B or EMT-I certification. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Examination. This course qualifies for Veterans Education Benefits. Our next class is anticipated to start soon.
Learn Cardiopulmonary Resusitation - (CPR)
We offer 3 CPR classes. All CPR classes are taught by an experienced American Heart Association and Basic Life Support certified instructor.
CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
The American Heart Association's "Heart Saver" course teaches basic adult, infant and child CPR and how to use an AED. It also includes recognition of the signs for heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest and choking.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers
This 8 hour course is intended for the health care professional and includes CPR, AED, foreign body airway obstruction relief, barrier devices and use of bag-valve masks. Basic Life Support - BLS for Health Care Providers - Renewal
Four hour refresher course for the health care professional who has previously completed the BLS course.
Disaster Preparedness
A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program is being offered free of charge to help prepare yourself, your family and neighbors in the event of a disaster. During an emergency disaster incident, emergency personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away. By getting trained in CERT, you will have the skills to help emergency responders save lives and protect property. In coordination with local, state and federal emergency response agencies and made available nationally by FEMA communities are training and organizing CERT teams across the country. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. Students under 18 must have written parental permission. This 3 day program is taught by a Certified CERT Instructor.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are offered in a variety of health care modalities to meet the State of Connecticut requirements for licensure renewal. This fall we are offering CEUs for the following allied health professionals:
